Srajan ( Creativity and Vocational skills)In addition to making education available to street children working at railway stations, we believe that the long term solution which will enable these children to become whole human beings and self-reliant, responsible, contributing citizens is to also expose them to skills that will generate income and employment in the long run. The Srajan program, therefore, teaches the children relevant income generating vocational skills that will lead to self-reliance and enhance self-respect. Skills taught so far include tailoring, screen-printing, diya making and creating paper products for ongoing and special occasions. This year we have also introduced computer education. The children also learn leadership and how to manage a small, independent unit. Last year, we introduced skills of computer education and martial arts of judo and shorinji kemo as also music and yoga. |
