According to the UN, a street child is any child for whom the street is the habitual abode and/or a source of livelihood. In Mumbai, there are over 250,000 street children. And street children, too, have a right to dream - so we at VOICE have made it our mission to provide the opportunity for that dream to come true.

Award Received

On 9th March 2007, Victor Bansiwar, the founder of VOICE was chosen by THE TIMES FOUNDATION, a group associated with THE TIMES OF INDIA, to receive an award for his outstanding work with the street children of mumbai. This was particularly with reference to SANJIVANI, the new home built by VOICE for mumbai's girl street child.

At the award ceremony, Kirti, a 16 year old student, who has been with VOICE since she was two years old, spoke about her life with VOICE and her dreams of being a teacher and changing the destiny of mumbai's street children. There was pin drop silence as she spoke...the words coming straight from the heart and huge applause followed.
