Asha - Kiran (Character value education)

We will soon be completing thirteen years of an extremely enriching teaching-learning experience with children unfortunately labeled as ‘street children’. During this time we have witnessed and experienced the benefit that these neglected and vulnerable children have experienced with a program that integrates the emotional, mental, physical and spiritual aspects of their personalities. We, therefore, decided to embark on a planned curriculum on value education that aims at helping children to learn the ideals of service to the community and to explore the values of truth, love, peace, right-conduct and non-violence and the divine nature of human life.

The Asha Kiran program helps an individual to gain an insight into the nature of society in which he/she is placed and to work with and live in it efficiently and harmoniously. The program emphasizes that “character is the most precious gift of education”-Mahatma Gandhi .

The Asha Kiran program confirms our belief that children should be given an integrated education aimed at promoting respect and tolerance for all, giving them a sense of moral, spiritual and social responsibility, so that they may become useful members of society.

Educational techniques include silent sitting, story telling, group singing and written and experiential projects.
